KME’s commitment to environmental protection has also taken an unusual turn : in 2006, on land belonging to the Group, in the heart of Tuscany, the Group created a vast nature reserve called “Oasi Dynamo” (Dynamo Oasis).
This is a very large piece of land (around 900 hectares) located in the Pistoia Apennines, the aim of which is to protect and safeguard this unspoiled corner of Tuscany.
The Oasis, which is already equipped with a number of walks and educational routes, features a rich variety of flora and fauna. The Oasis is inhabited by wolves, roe deer, mouflons, deer, fallow deer, wild boars, porcupines, foxes, stoats, weasels and dormice, as well as a variety of birds, including numerous diurnal raptors such as goshawks, buzzards, falcons and the magnificent royal eagles.
The Oasis is owned by the Group and managed by a Group company (Immobiliare Agricola Limestre), but is affiliated with the WWF, which means that it is managed in line with the eco-compatibility criteria laid down by the WWF Italy. This means that WWF technicians supervise the management and refurbishment of the buildings to ensure their compliance with the principles of bio-architecture and the use of renewable materials.
The Oasis is open to the public from 15 March to the end of October ; visits must be arranged in advance.
An admission fee is charged: all income generated in this way is put towards the management of the oasis, as well as financing the Dynamo Camp Village which hosts free summer camps for children affected by chronic and serious illness.
